Aged Citizen Dies.
At the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Barker, in Fair Play, W. R. Hardaway passed into
the future life, Sunday, March 20, after a long illness. Deceased was born September
1, 1842, at Bewleyville, Kentucky, and was therefore 79 years 6 months and 19 days at the
time of his death. He came to Missouri in early life, and when the Civil war broke
out he cast his lot with the South and enlisted in a Confederate company formed at
Carthage, Missouri, and served thru the war. He then returned to Kentucky, and
February 4, 1868, was married to Miss Serena Francis Peters, of Vine Grove, Kentucky.
To this union were born four children, two of whom, with the wife, preceded him in
death. The two living children are J. E. Hardaway, of Lisle, Missouri and Mrs. W. H.
Barker, of Fair Play. There are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren,
all men and boys but one. Deceased came to Missouri in 1874 (sic., maybe
1847?, webmaster), and has lived in Vernon and Polk Counties ever since. He was
converted in 1880, and joined the Bethel Baptist church in Vernon County, of which he has
since been a member.
The funeral was held Monday from the Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Phillips, and was attended by many friends besides his many relatives here. Interment was made in the Akard cemetery.
