Nancy Helen Shacklett was born in Meade Co. Ky. Sept. 3, 1858. She was
the daughter of Burnis & Susan Dowell Shacklett. She departed this life at the home of
her daughter Mrs. Henry Davis near Fayette, Mo. Jan. 29, 1953 being well along in her 95th
year. When she was two years old the family moved by flatboat and wagon to Texas, and settled in Grayson Co. to make their home. Here at the age of 17 she met and married Wm. Parkinson Brown on Oct. 10, 1875. Two years later they came to Mo. by covered wagon to establish a home. With the exception of a few years they lived and reared their large family in Howard and Boone Counties. Into this home 13 lucky children were born. These were Effie, John, Nora, Charles (who died in infancy), Sarah, Susie, Price, Bryan, Jesse, Robert, D.T., Ben and Aubrey. Wealth and material things were often lacking, but love and laughter were always with them. Twelve children were reared to adulthood and all have families of their own. |
